St. Paul's Corinthians 13:4 - 7 and Shakespeare's Sonnet 116 both have some similarities and contrasts.

Shakespeare's sonnet has some similarities with St. Paul's writing.  For example, they both describe love as enduring.  Shakespeare says that if it is true love, then they will always love each other.  St. Paul states that, "love endures all things."  Love is everlasting.  Shakespeare says that love will last forever, even when they grow old.  St. Paul says that they should always love each other no matter what they look like.  Shakespeare says that no matter how many storms they will always love each otehr.  St. Paul states that they should not fight.

Some contrasts between them are St. Paul more clearly describes love, while Shakespeare uses imagery and literary device.  Shakespeare compares love to a "bark" or ship, the stars and sickles.

Shakespeare and St. Paul both have sililarities and differences when it comes to describing love.
